Championnat du Monde de Cyclo-Cross : Mourey y a cru
The pilot FDJ was riding for the podium this weekend at the CX World Championships in Louisville. Unfortunately a puncture ruined his race ...
15 seconds. That is the gap that Mourey had in the lead of the Cyclo-cross World championships in Louisville at the half of the race. In the chasing group, the usual leaders of the world cup: the Belgians Nys, Vantornout, Pauwels and Albert.
The FDJ rider took all the risks in very tough conditions, with mud and snow all along the track. He is caught back by this chasing group and they are still 4 riders in the lead before the last third of the race.
Unfortunately, when Sven Nys and Klaas Vantornout accelerate, Francis is victim of a puncture that ruins his race and hopes. He lost contact with the leader and lost energy to get to the technical zone.
No more reason to hope. Mourey finished his race at the 11th place. « When I change my bike, it's too late, I quickly realize that it's over for the podium. When you rode to the title and all of a sudden, everything goes, it’s terrible. Anyway, 11th or 5th , I did not care. »
In the last round, the inexhaustible Sven Nys, faster in the technical parts of the track, flies to his second world championship title, at 36 years old..
For Mourey, this is a hard outcome of an exemplary season. Bravo Francis!
