Milan – San Remo - It was Demare’s Day!

He created a huge sensation on Saturday on the italian roads; after 295 km and 6h54 of effort, the FDJ rider created an incredible final showing off his sprinting skills. 30kms from the finish line, Demare crashed and lost twenty seconds over the peloton. He chased back to the group and caught them between the Cipressa and the Poggio. As usual, there was a huge fight in this ultimate climb: we saw Gallopin, Kwiatkowski, Nibali, Cancellara attacking ... Without success.
At just 400 meters from the finish line the peloton (or what remained of it) reformed in one piece again. Then it was a long sprint, with a crash from Gaviria (Etixx-Quick Step). Arnaud Démare, well placed in the first 5 places, launched his sprint 250 meters from the line. He passed successively Bouhanni, Van Avermaet and Roelandts and won brilliantly on Via Roma!
Warmly congratulated by his teammates, Arnaud Demare savoured the biggest victory of his young career. At 24 years old, he has a confident start to the Classics period and hopes to confirm that 2016 will be his year.
