The new weapon of choice for Team FDJ.fr

 

Aerodynamics, speed and precision: the new Lapierre aero road bike is built for competition. All the science of the Aerostorm combined with the performances of the Xelius EFI has led to the development of this new frame, blending aerodynamics and efficiency, for results that have never been seen before.

The new Aircode is the result of all Lapierre’s experience and know-how with aerodynamics and building carbon frames. In fact, this new frame has been developed on the basis of the results of the various aerodynamic studies conducted for the design of the Aerostorm (wind-tunnel testing; digital simulation of airflows around bike and rider, CFD).

Each component has therefore been thought out to optimise the bike’s aerodynamics while preserving maximum rigidity and excellent pedal-power transfer. In particular, the integration of Power Box technology, developed and used on the Xelius EFI, was crucial.

Following more than 9 months of development, a first Aircode prototype was handed over to Team FDJ.fr, who has been fully involved in this project. Numerous test sessions were scheduled, enabling riders and team staff to provide Lapierre engineers with precious data. The result is a racing machine, tested and approved by Team FDJ.fr’s standard-setting test riders.

The Aircode range is made up of two exclusive versions, available on the Ultimate programme, and three standard versions. For those ranges, components dedicated to performance have been meticulously selected: double or compact drivetrain, 11-speed cassette, Shimano Ultegra brakes, Mavic Ksyrium wheels, Zipp cockpit, Fizik Antares saddle, etc. 

Why is the Lapierre Aircode the best? Two-words: aerodynamics and efficiency.

For aerodynamics:

  • Kamm-tail down tube and seat tube (wing profile with truncated trailing edge)

    • Best-possible rigidity/weight/aerodynamics compromise

    • Best-possible crosswind performance (none of the turbulence created by a classic trailing edge)

  • Slender head tube and semi-integrated stem

  • Profiled fork

  • Semi-integrated direct-mount front brake 

  • Aerostorm-style integrated seat clamp

  • Internal cable routing

For efficiency:

  • Incorporation of Power Box technology: oversized head tube, down tube, bottom bracket shell and chainstays (same lateral rigidity as the Xelius EFI) and maximised carbon fibre length à Optimum pedal-power transfer

  • Reworked carbon fibre assembly: various fibres used (Young modulus of 24t, 30t and 40t) à Better flex capacity of tubes and minimisation of breakage

  • High-performance geometry identical to the Xelius EFI, with 1 additional large size (6 sizes in total), the only difference being increased fork offset (50 mm instead of the 43 mm on the Xelius EFI) for better handling
