World Championships in Florence - Vichot 18th and best french rider
The World Championships took place this weekend on the roads of Florence, Italy. Among the favorites, there were Philippe Gilbert, the defending champion, Peter Sagan, Fabian Cancellara, Vincenzo Nibali and the Spanish riders.
Team France had a young and ambitious team (Arthur Vichot, Thibaut Pinot, Romain Bardet, Warren Barguil) with Thomas Voeckler as road captain.
Arthur Vichot in hellish conditions!
The race was run under torrents of rain and riders were not spared from crashes. In these harsh conditions, French riders did their utmost, but sadly not enough to fight at the front; however it was a great experience for these young riders.
Arthur Vichot distinguished himself by taking 18th place, he was the best French rider of the day. He explains: "I'm tired ... 18th is not bad, but I still missed the little thing to be part of, not the 1st, but the 2nd group to finish in the top 10. My race was a little bit of a mess, I was always between the breaks and it took me five laps to reach the group, these are efforts that count at the end. We had nothing to lose, we were far from being the favorite, it is a team of young and ambitious riders and we gave everything in hellish conditions. We have nothing to be ashamed of, we crossed the line burnt out. I learned that I need to be more self-confident and well aware that I can compete with the best in a race like that. Rui Costa is a rider that reads each course very well, he makes the right effort at the right time. "
The title goes to the Portuguese Rui Costa, who proved to be the smartest in the end. He beat the Spaniards Rodriguez and Valverde . He won after 272 km and 7h22 of effort.
Jérémy Roy 29th on the Time Trial
During the Time Trial, Jeremy Roy took the 29th place in a race won by Tony Martin, untouchable in this discipline.
