XCE World Championships Hafjell - Kevin Miquel takes bronze!

10 days after claiming his first World Cup podium in Meribel (3rd place), Kevin Miquel (Team Lapierre Veloroc) put in a sensational performance in Hafjell for the opening of the MTB World Championships.

On this spectacular discipline that is XC Eliminator, riding his ProRace 929, Kevin Miquel passed the earlier rounds with flying colors.

After a battle at the start of the final, Kevin took control of the race and kept the lead throughout, the world champion's jersey in sight. Unfortunately, in a desperate attempt to pass, the Swedish rider Lindgren took the inside line in the last turn and took Kevin down a few meters before the finish line. The Belgian rider Mels, third at that moment, took that opportunity to take the lead and claimed victory.

Our French rider had to settle for the bronze medal despite having been so close to taking gold throughout the race, but he had no regrets: "I was hesitant to take the inside line but I finally chose the turn on the outside line for maximum speed and a good start to the sprint. Lindgren rushed over me, but that's part of the game. I was at the front and I was probably a bit relaxed before the final descent. Maybe I was a little too confident."

This starts off the tally of medals for the French team. The replay is on Redbull TV (Elite Men final at 1h22min) http://live.redbull.tv/events/371/2014-uci-mountain-bike-and-trials-world-championships-Hafjell-xce

The tally is increasing as the French XC relay team just claimed victory on the XC team relay!

Its ranks included Maxime Marotte, Jordan Sarrou, Pauline Ferrand Prevot-Pigeon and Hugo (Team Lapierre Veloroc). Second medal for France and for Team Lapierre Veloroc. An impressive performance for this club which has a huge number of riders and is a longtime partner of Lapierre. A great reward for Yvon Miquel and the team from Cavaillon who have been working for many years on the XC circuits.
